We have developed a new triad-pattern algorithm “Strong promoter search”, unique in
terms of identification of strong promoters in bacterial genomes. This
algorithm is useful to study the distribution of strong promoters in bacteria
of medical and economic significance. As a support to DNA array data, it helps
understanding how highly transcribed genes in bacteria, including pathogens, react to treatments. This
information is important to assess the stress response, to identify the anti-microbial
targets, to understand the resistance mechanisms and interactions with human
organism. Furthermore, strong promoter candidates may prove useful in protein
overexpression in bacteria of biotechnological importance.
